History & Future

At WheelCare, we view people as our most valuable resource. From the employees at the home office to the drivers out on the streets transporting passengers, each one is treated as family.

Where we’ve been & where we’re going…

WheelCare exists as the brainchild of Rick Little. Established in 2013, under Rick’s leadership, a handful of people with a few vehicles in Mobile, Alabama grew into a team of drivers, with a fleet of vehicles, operating in multiple states. We will be forever grateful not only for Rick’s founding accomplishments but for his commitment to transfer the business into the hands of someone who would care about WheelCare, its employees and the people they transport. However, WheelCare’s success has not been a one-man effort, and we would be remiss not to mention those individuals who have been there since the early days: Paula Staughn (Chief Operating Officer), Leo Straughn (Fleet Manager), Emmit Byrd (Credentialing Manager), Mickey Smith (Insurance and Legal), Joyce Grissett (Dispatch), and Gwen Courtney (Dispatch).

Claude Warren stepped up to the helm at WheelCare in August 2023. The dream of owning his own business began germinating early in Claude’s professional career while a partner at Wilkins Miller, CPA. Over the years, several opportunities presented themselves, but neither the timing nor those businesses were the right fit. Looking back at the journey, the decades of dreaming allowed Claude to gain the professional knowledge and expertise needed to run a successful business. But, in Claude’s view, a successful business involves more than business-know-how and experience. It includes establishing and nurturing a culture marked by integrity and respect and a culture in which people are valued. At WheelCare, we view people as our most valuable resource. From the employees at the home office to the drivers out on the streets transporting passengers, each one is treated as family.

What can you expect from WheelCare in the coming months and years? First and foremost, expect continued commitment to people, both to our employees and the people we serve. You will see and hear the same faithful WheelCare employees in the home office and driving you to appointments. Second, expect a growing team equipped with updated communication resources and business processes. Third, expect expansion into new areas and increased services offerings, as well as additional drivers and vehicles in existing areas. Finally, expect to see WheelCare out-and-about in the community, partnering with others who are working to make our communities better places to live.
